Toni-Amanda Killingbeck

Hi my name is Toni-Amanda Killingbeck and I have been a dance artist with East Riding Youth Dance since it began in September 2005. As well as being involved in youth dance I also work for a private dance school within the East Riding. My love of dance began at the age of 6 when I joined a local dance school where I was introduced to ballet, tap and modern. At 16 I left home and spent 3 years at vocational dance college where I studied a variety of dance genres to a high standard as well as gaining my teaching qualifications.

Following this I spent 11 years dancing professionally with a variety of exciting dance contracts such as cruise ships, pantomimes, summer seasons and theatre productions, which gave me the opportunity to visit many fabulous parts of the world. I have now been teaching for 6 years and feel extremely proud to have been able to continue with my lifelong passion and love for the dancing world.

My early experience of dance started with ballet at the age of 4, however I felt the need for a different style of dance when I got to secondary school and it was here that I discovered contemporary. I took this further at university where I gained a BA in Contemporary Dance and Theatre Studies. I have been a choreographer at several musical theatre societies for over 12 years where I have gained valuable skills in both lyrical and musical theatre dancing.

I teach street dance workshops for a youth work organisation as well as in local primary schools and have been a support worker for East Riding Youth Dance for three years. I am passionate about encouraging as many young people as possible to have a go at dancing, putting extra emphasis on the fact that it does not matter how experienced they are, and I feel that the Youth Dance Project is a fantastic opportunity for allowing young people to do just that.
