East Riding Youth Dance

ARTIST - BEVERLEY
Katie Karlson

Hi my name is Katie Karlson, I became a dance artist with East Riding Youth Dance in January 2011. My passion for dance began at the age of four when I attended a dance school learning Ballet, Tap and Modern. At the age of 16 I went to college and was introduced to the world of contemporary dance which opened up my eyes to the dance industry, which lead me to gain a place at university on a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance.

In 2009 I graduated after spending three years being involved in arts projects and performances as well as creating my own choreography. I then went straight into a Master of Arts postgraduate degree in Dance. I hope to involve my research with my time at East Riding Youth Dance on creative projects and pursue my career goal of becoming a teacher of dance in secondary education.

I started dancing from the age of 3. I trained in many forms of dancing specialising in Tap, Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz. I attended many dance festivals gaining lots of trophies and medals and underwent many exams. I qualified in teaching tap, ballet and jazz when leaving school, teaching both children and adults. I have worked for East riding Youth Dance for almost 4 years now and thoroughly enjoy working and supporting the young people.
